Our Olivet Women’s Ministry just held our first meeting on Jan. 28, 2012 and it was the most inspirational meeting I have ever had the pleasure to attend and to be part of this group.
Dianne Coon and I were speaking of the need for more unity between our local churches and to bring women together with the common bonds of spirituality, prayer and reaching out to each other. Session allowed us to start this new program in our church. There had been a women’s ministry years ago but our church had not had one in a number of years.
Dianne did a marvelous job of making posters to advertise this day, she made cards for each lady to fill out with what they see are needs in our community and in our own lives. We had a great response to these cards and will have a steering committee to pray over them and to plan more meetings.
The day dawned cold but sunny and we had our soup and bread brunch at 11 a.m. in our fellowship hall. It was warm and loving and 38 women came together with the soul purpose of honoring God and hearing beautiful songs, psalms, talks, time to get acquainted and to be a blessing to each other. It was such a deeply felt inspirational day for all of us, we felt God’s light shining through from each of us to each other. I have never seen a group like this in my life.
We began the day with asking everyone to sign in and at each chair was a beautiful bookmark and pen with Woman of God, “The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.” Romans l6:20 and some dove candy to be enjoyed by all of us. Each place also had a card to fill out with information of the needs of our community.
We had our church represented, one in Day’s Creek, Azalea Faith Center, Holy Family Catholic Church and Azalea Community Church.
Each of us had wonderful ideas to offer of how we can grow in our Christian faith.
Dianne opened with a welcome and introduction, Candace Hissong opened in prayer. Dianne than sang “His Eye is on the Sparrow”, now our eyes are glistening with tears as we listen. Deb Kenny read her own writing of A Woman’s Journey and we all related to her writing.
Then Dianne announced it was time for our soup/bread/cookies/cake luncheon with tea, coffee and water.
After we enjoyed our repast, it was time for Candace to speak and she spoke directly from her heart, Bowl and Spoon and we not only had glistening tears, we had Kleenex out and handy. I wish you could have all heard her talk about how we need each other in our lives and the different roles we play each day in our lives.
Shannon Wolf then spoke about the need for prayer for her youth group and the teens will continue to come and enjoy learning and the fun times she has planned for all of them. We are all much encouraged to help her in this worthwhile endeavor.
I want to thank everyone who helped make this a most special and blest day, Makiah and Shannon helped serve cake and cookies, and Makiah took many beautiful pictures of our day, Dianne did so much of the organizing and the heart felt hard work for the day to be successful, Candace filled in with very short notice, Mary was happy to make the soup etc. Deb Kenny read her own divine writing. Ladies from the other churches pitched in and the place was clean and shining in short order. I read this quote and will use it but can’t quite remember where I read it, “Everyone can contribute to any undertaking – mailing/calling/baking/money/everyone can claim their own responsibility. We would enjoy feedback from our women, who would like to help, who would like to pray for this new
endeavor.
“God uses each of us with our own gifts, ministries are never one person, it is the Lord’s work.”
